Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand were the first to recall units of Maggi for testing, in order to find excessive amount of Lead in it. Following suit, governments in Kerala, Delhi, Karnataka, Telangana, and many other states are considering to ban the product. Nestle India have clarified its stand on the issue, but the tests in several states have shown that there remains excessive amount of lead in it. The social media, both Twitter and Facebook, have been abuzz with the recent developments in the case, with Maggi hogging the limelight like never before. However, a WhatsApp message has confirmed that Nestle India has indeed accepted the allegations. The message not only slams the ingredients of Maggi, but also questions the making of several other eating products- be it Maggi, Coke, Pepsi, and Pizza among many others. In its official statement, Nestle India has said, "We have also submitted samples of MAGGI Noodles from almost 600 product batches to an external laboratory for independent analysis and we tested samples from almost 1,000 batches at our accredited laboratory. These samples represent around 125 million [12.5 Crore] packets. All the results of these internal and external tests show that lead levels are well within the limits specified by food regulations and that MAGGI noodles are safe to eat.
